Background

About the ship

The Guépard leader series received a number of improvements over Jaguar. The main battery comprised 138.6 mm guns, and the AA defenses were provided by new rapid-firing 37 mm guns. The improved armament resulted in an increase in size and displacement, so the engine power was increased to maintain the speed. During World War II, Guépard took part in operations against Italy—the shelling of the port of Genoa, in particular.
