World of Warships tips

Advice, settings, and habits to test in battle.

Gameplay

Check the minimap during reloads

Use reload time to check positions, missing ships, and retreating flanks.

Settings

Enable last known positions

Grey icons show the last known position and help you anticipate the enemy's route.

Gameplay

Wait for a better target

If the target is bow-in, hold the salvo for a broadside or a spotted destroyer.

Gameplay

Shoot the spotted destroyer

Every hit point removed reduces its ability to contest, spot, and launch torpedoes.

Gameplay

Do not show broadside for one turret

Keep a safe angle. Use the rear turret only when opening the angle does not expose your citadel.

Gameplay

Watch the targeting counter

If it rises suddenly, reduce exposure or prepare to disengage.

Economy

Save Coal until you have a plan

Coal accumulates slowly. Decide what you want before spending it.

Economy

Do not automatically sell old ships

Some events reward Tier V+ ships in Port. Check before selling.

Economy

Keep a Credit reserve

Keep enough Credits for the ship, its modules, and upgrades.

Economy

Save Free XP for modules

Use Free XP for modules that severely limit a ship. Avoid skipping an entire line.

Economy

Use large bonuses in good conditions

Do not equip your best economic bonuses on a stock ship, your first game of the day, or a mode you barely understand.

Bonuses

Open News from Port

Some missions must be activated from an article or Port news item.

Bonuses

Test the newest codes first

Start with the newest codes, then work down the list.

Bonuses

Check your region before redeeming

EU, NA, and ASIA use separate portals. Check the account region before redemption.

Gameplay

Announce radar before using it

Warn the team a few seconds beforehand. Radar without guns ready mostly reveals that you own an expensive consumable.

Gameplay

Activate Hydro before entering

Activate Hydro before entering an island gap, smoke screen, or likely torpedo route.

Gameplay

Back out from an island when needed

Bow in, brake, and reverse is often safer than turning the whole ship and exposing broadside to half the map.

Getting started

Choose one point to practise

Choose one theme: minimap, angles, or ammunition. Fixing twelve habits simultaneously usually produces twelve mediocre habits.

Getting started

Review the 30 seconds before your death

Find the decision that exposed you: route, angle, target, or failure to disengage.

Getting started

Progress two lines, not eight

One main line and one secondary line are enough to compare styles without spreading Credits and Commanders.

Gameplay

Create an angle without isolating yourself

A good crossfire remains close enough to support the team. Sailing three grid squares away to be original usually ends in a very personal sinking.

Gameplay

Do not repair one fire under focus

If several enemies keep firing, wait when survival allows. An instant repair often buys a permanent fire or flood ten seconds later.

Settings

Filter ships in Port

Filter by tier, nation, festive bonus, or Elite status.

Settings

Save your settings

After reinstalling or returning, a screenshot of minimap and interface settings prevents rebuilding preferences from memory.
