Background

About the ship

The second ship of the only series of Austro-Hungarian dreadnoughts. With their compact layout and efficient main battery arrangement, the Tegetthoff-class battleships were regarded as well-armed for their size. The construction of these ships reinforced the status of Austria-Hungary as a maritime power. During World War I, the Austro-Hungarian dreadnoughts, following the fleet-in-being principle, did not engage in combat but, by their mere presence, tied down significant Entente naval forces in the Adriatic.
